Biography:
Mr. Kalafsky is one of the original founders and Chief Technology Officer of The Aztec Corporation and Aztec Architects, LLC. With over thirty years of practical experience he has acquired a wide breadth of knowledge and performance in the research and development of CADD (Computer Aided Drafting and Design) as utilized in corporate office interiors, industrial facility design, hospitality design, and base building architecture that has hailed him as an expert in these fields. He has spoken before many industry types including Real Estate, Engineering and Architecture.
Mr. Kalafsky attended Syracuse University School of Architecture and graduated from New York Institute of Technology with a Bachelor of Architecture professional degree. Prior to founding The Aztec Corporation, he was the CADD/CAP/CAFM Director for Brenner Business Interiors, Newark, New Jersey, project manager at Bach + Rodetsky, Architects, Freehold, New Jersey and an intern at Samuel P Abate and Associates, Ocean, New Jersey.
As the Principal/CTO of The Aztec Corporation and a Registered Architect in twenty-seven states and the District of Columbia, including New Jersey, New York, Connecticut, Delaware and Pennsylvania, he is responsible for generating new business and overseeing his projects, Mr. Kalafsky also has overall responsibility for the technology infrastructure at Aztec as well as supervision, quality control and production of technical documentation and computer aided drafting and design for each client’s facility needs. With his knowledge of local, state, and federal codes and ordinances, he is considered an expert in code review and interpretation and often testifies before authorities in many jurisdictions and courts of law. Mr. Kalafsky continuously looks for ways to assist others in identifying and reaching their goals and objectives, which directly benefits all of our clients.
He has been a member of NAIOP’s Community Action Committee where he has lent his expertise to help build parks in needy urban areas across the state. He also serves the Industrial and Office Real Estate Brokers Association as an Executive Committee Member / President Elect. Mr. Kalafsky has been an active member of the New Jersey Chapter of the American Institute of Architects for over 20 years and has served as the Codes and Standards Committee Chair, By-Laws Committee Chair, AIANJ Service Awards Committee Chair, Secretary, 2nd Vice President, President Elect, President and currently serves as Chair of the AIANJ Legislative and Government Affairs Committee. He has also served AIA National for three years as a member of the National Resolutions Committee which he chaired in 2015. For his outstanding service AIA New Jersey honored him with the Distinguished Service Award in 2013.
Mr. Kalafsky has also been very active within his community. For eighteen years he was actively involved as a Coach for Pop Warner Football. He also served as the President of the local Executive Board and Division Commissioner of Jersey Shore Pop Warner Football League. Mr. Kalafsky, an Eagle Scout, has continued to give back to the Boy Scouts by serving on the Monmouth Council Executive Board as their Properties Committee Chair and Vice President of Administration, and Council President. Monmouth Council has honored Mr Kalafsky with many awards including the Silver Beaver, the National Eagle Scout Association Outstanding Eagle Scout Award, Alumni of the Year and Campbuilder of the Year. Mr. Kalafsky current serves as the Monmouth Council Vice President of District Operations and as the National Career Chair for Engineering & Technology for The Boy Scouts of America’s Exploring division. Mr. Kalafsky further has found time to serve as on the Board of Trustees for his Church. Most recently he was recognized by the Governor of Kentucky with the distinguished designation of Kentucky Colonel for his service to others.
